Salmo 139

Great Psalm

1 Lord, you have searched me and known me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise; from afar you perceive my thoughts.

3 You know very well when I work and when I rest; all my ways are well known to you.

4 Before the word even hits my tongue, you already know it entirely, Lord.

5 You surround me, behind and in front, and lay your hand on me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful and beyond my reach; it is so high that I cannot reach it.

7 Where could I escape from your Spirit? Whither could I flee from your presence?

8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in the grave, you are there too.

9 If I go up on the wings of the dawn and dwell at the end of the sea,

10 even there your right hand will guide me and hold me up.

11 Even though I say that darkness will cover me up and light will turn to night around me,

12 I will see that even the darkness is not dark for you. The night will shine like the day, for darkness is light for you.

13 You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.

14 I praise you because you made me special and admirable. Your works are wonderful! I say this with conviction.

15 My bones were not hidden from you when I was formed in secret and woven together as in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my embryo; all the days appointed for me were written in your book before any of them were.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How great is their sum!

18 If I counted them, they would be more than the grains of sand. If you finished counting them, I would still be with you.

19 Oh God, that you would kill the wicked! Away from me, murderers!

20 For they speak evil of thee; in vain they rebel against you.

21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord? And do I not hate those who rebel against you?

22 I hate them implacably! I consider them my enemies!

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my worries.

24 See if anything in my conduct offends you and direct me along the eternal path.
