Salmo 89

Great Psalm

1 I will sing for ever the love of the Lord; with my mouth I will declare your faithfulness throughout the generations

2 I know how steadfast your love is, and that you have established your faithfulness in heaven.

3 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn to my servant David:

4 "I will establish your lineage forever, and will establish your throne for all generations."

5 The heavens praise thy wonders, LORD, and thy faithfulness in the congregation of saints.

6 For who in heaven can compare with the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings resembles the Lord?

7 In the assembly of the saints God is fearful above all those around him.

8 O LORD God of hosts, who is like you? You are powerful, Lord, wrapped in your faithfulness.

9 You rule the raging sea; when its waves loom, you calm them.

10 You have crushed and killed the Sea Monster; With your strong arm you have scattered your enemies.

11 The heavens are yours, and yours is the earth; You founded the world and everything in it.

12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for your name for joy.

13 Your arm is mighty; your hand is strong, exalted is your right hand.

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.

15 How happy are the people who have learned to praise you, Lord, who walk in the light of your presence!

16 They continually rejoice in your name, and rejoice in your righteousness.

17 For you are our glory and our strength, and by your favor you exalt our strength.

18 Yes, Lord, you are our shield, O Holy One of Israel, you are our king.

19 In a vision you spoke one day, and said to your faithful, “I have covered a warrior with strength, I have exalted a chosen man from among the people.

20 I met my servant David; I anointed him with my holy oil.

21 My hand will sustain him, and my arm will make him strong.

22 No enemy shall subject him to tributes; no unjust shall oppress him.

23 I will crush his adversaries before him, and destroy his enemies.

24 My faithfulness and my love will accompany him, and by his name will his power increase.

25 His hand shall rule over the sea; your right hand to the rivers.

26 He will say to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock that saves me.'

27 I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.

28 I will keep my love for him forever, and my covenant with him shall never be broken.

29 I will establish his lineage forever, and his throne will last as long as there are heavens.

30 “If your children forsake my law and do not follow my ordinances,

31 if they break my decrees, and fail to obey my commandments,

32 I will punish his sin with his rod and his iniquity with stripes.

33 but I will not turn my love from him; I will never give up my faithfulness.

34 I will not break my covenant, nor change the promises of my lips.

35 I swore at once for my holiness, and will not lie to David.

36That his lineage will remain forever, and his throne will last as the sun;

37 He shall be established forever as the moon, the faithful witness in heaven. ”

38 But you rejected him, refused him, and were angry with your anointed.

39 Thou hast revoked the covenant with thy servant, and have dishonored his crown by casting it to the ground.

40 You have broken down all its walls and reduced its fortresses to ruins.

41 All who pass by spoil him; became a mockery to his neighbors.

42 Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries, and filled all his enemies with joy.

43 You took the edge of his sword and did not support it in battle.

44 You have done this to its splendor and have thrown its throne to the ground.

45 Thou hast shortened the days of his youth; with a cloak of shame you covered it.

46 How long, Lord? Will you always hide? How long will your anger burn like fire?

47 Remember how fleeting my life is. Have you created in vain all men?

48 What man can live and not see death, or get rid of the power of the grave?

49 O Lord, where is your old love, which faithfully swore to David?
