The Hannya mask is a mask used in Japanese Noh theater, representing a jealous female demon. It is featured by two sharp bull-like horns, metallic eyes, and a leering mouth.

Samurai was a term used in ancient Japan for the noble class of soldiers. Samurai derives from the ancient Japanese word "saburau," meaning 'to serve.'

War occupies an important place in Japanese culture. The important clans of the country have faced each other many times. Only 20% of the Japanese land is suitable for agriculture has given birth to the land fight. The development of the Samurai is also based on this fact, as territorial wars require both religious and physical methods of development and struggle.

The Samurai was based on the concept of "bushido." Bushido means "Warrior's Way." Fear has no place in Bushido philosophy. A samurai is someone who has overcome the fear of death. This would bring serenity and establish loyalty to the master.

Between the ninth and twelfth centuries, Samurai became a class. They were called by two names: Samurai (knight), Bushi (warriors). Some of these people belonged to the ruling classes. Some of them fought for money. The Samurai were utterly subordinate to their feudal lords (Daimyo). In return for their services, they received positions and land. Daimyos used the Samurai to gain more ground and increase their strength.

The Samurai were trained to fight on horseback, on foot, armed, or unarmed. They also used arrows. However, after the Mongol wars in the 13th century, the use of swords by the Samurai gained weight. They even started using spears, and sword-shaped spears called naginata.

Samurai would have two swords. The long sword was "daitoo-katana," and the short sword was "shoto-wakizashi." They also had knives called tantos. Samurai often gave names (mei) to their swords and believed in their spirit. Carrying and wielding dual swords was called "daisho."

In 1605, Miyamoto Musashi, Japan's most famous Samurai, opened a school to train warriors. This master, who managed to win over 60 sword fights before turning 30, taught at his school for years. In 1615, another well-known Samurai, Tokugawa Ieyasu, wrote a book about Samurai and gave information about the peacetime lifestyle of the Samurai.
