Not without my vacuum cleaner!

For some odd reason, the best way to calm down most newborns is to have a vacuum cleaner or hair dryer running and humming nearby. Other babies prefer sleeping next to a rumbling washing machine during its spin cycle.

So what about these sounds? You read a lot that these sounds may remind your baby of its time in the womb. And you read a lot about „white noise“ that might even help adults to calm and sleep, because its masks and blocks any other disturbing sound.

Just as white light contains all the colors of the visible spectrum, white noise contains all frequencies of the audible spectrum. In truth, white noise may sound a bit aggressive to our ears, because our hearing capacities are not the same with every frequency. We experience higher tones as louder than lower tones. The sounds of Schlafmaschine have a frequency pattern that closely resembles „pink“ noise“, where higher tones are lower in volume.
