Snowdrop or Galanthus ( lat. Galánthus ) genus of perennial herbs of the family Amaryllidaceae. It includes 18 species and two hybrids of natural origin. There are 12 species on the territory of the former USSR.

The scientific name of the plant is formed from the Latinized Greek words γάλα ( gála ) and ἄνθος ( ánthos ) which can be understood as a milk flower given by the color of flowers. The leaves are located in the surface beam.
