SPQR is an application which turns your device into regular speed camera.

SPeed QameRa (SPQR) is an application which turns your device into regular speed camera. Measure speed of any object with your mobile phone. All you need to know is the distance the object travels. You can take a photo, which shows its validity: the speed, the distance traveled, the date and the location of the picture.

Notices:

1. To receive the most accurate results you need to provide accurate distance on which object travels. To acquire this, follow these steps:

a. Take few initial measurements to correctly choose the end points of the measurements. Choose the points with the most uniform backgrounds, preferably similar one to another.

b. Provide accurate distance. Knowing the end points measure the distance between them. You can use standard instruments (like measuring tape), or some fixed infrastructure elements like traffic posts along the road or dashed lines drawn on the road and by counting them obtain the distance. Then just input the data manually. If none of the above is possible, the application provides 3 additional ways to help you. However please bear in mind, that the accuracy of this methods might not be perfect:

i. Measure the distance using provided map.

ii. Measure the distance using camera. If you are unable to reach the area you measure, you can measure the distance remotely (but not too far away from you. The accuracy of this method lowers with the distance). If you are located on some height, like on the pier above the water, add its height to your height. Please remember that you must be leveled with moving object to obtain reliable result. Follow instructions on the screen.

iii. Measure the distance using GPS position. Please remember that standard GPS accuracy is 3 meters or more. When using this method wait until you have enough satellites number in range and good enough GPS signal accuracy. Preferably both should be marked in green on the screen.

c. Measure the speed. Set proper sensitivity levels for current light conditions at place you are measuring.

i. “Camera Sensitivity” tells how sensitive the detection process should be. The higher level, the smaller change detected at the measurement point triggers the measurement.

ii. “Object Precision” tells the sensitivity of object detection between two measurement points. The higher value, the object in the second measurement point must resemble closer the object in the first measurement point. This helps to distinguish objects, when two or more objects are racing at the same time. In poor conditions set sensitivity of the camera to higher value, while object precision to smaller. You need to experiment yourself with these settings.

iii. “Detection Field” tells how big the detection areas of the objects are. Usually, you want a bigger value. But if you measure some small objects or have efficiency problems with your device, you can use lower values.

d. Detect the registration plates.

i. Follow the instruction on short vide tutorial. Please follow the simple video tutorial displayed when detecting is enabled. In particular please:

ii. Select the area where plates should be detected. Mark as small area as possible and try to anticipate it the way the plates will be detected around the center of the area.

iii. Choose the right plane for the plated. Rotate the plate so it matches as good as possible real plane for detected plates.

SPQR application stores taken pictures (with premium option) in local memory, in /DCIM/SPQR or /SPQR directory, depending on Android version you use.
