As for the timing and contextual background of the revelation (asbab al-nuzul), it is an earlier “Meccan surah” meaning it was revealed in Mecca, rather than Medina. This surah was revealed in Mecca at a time when the Quraysh’s hostility and their fear and hatred of Islam and the Prophet were at their height.
