- additional characters,

- horizontal road signs,

In Poland, the patterns of road signs and signals are set out in the Regulation on road signs and signals (Journal of Laws of 2002 No. 170, item 1393). Annex 1 to the Regulation on detailed technical conditions for road signs and signals as well as road traffic safety devices and conditions for their location on roads (Journal of Laws from 2003 No. 220, item 2181) regulates the detailed conditions of using these signals, ie size, size and visibility of signs, colors and reflections, lettering and used inscriptions, rules for choosing the type of film on the face of signs, rules for placing signs on the road, color patterns and character constructions.

Traffic signs are divided into vertical and horizontal. Vertical signs are those placed in the form of a vertical disk (triangular, round or rectangular) at the road or above the road (sometimes painted on roadside walls). Horizontal signs are those that are painted directly on the road, usually white (sometimes - yellow) paint resistant to abrasion by vehicle wheels. Polish road signs are generally almost identical to the signs found in other European countries, which results from the Vienna Convention on road signs and signals from 1968 (Journal of Laws of 1988 No. 5, item 42); they can be distinguished by detailed solutions regarding the size of characters, shades of used colors or the shape of symbols.

Traffic signals are signals that are valid for road traffic. The meaning and scope of their validity is specified in the relevant regulation. Traffic signals are located on the right, left, above or on the road. Divided into:

- light signals transmitted by signalers,

- signals broadcast by authorized persons,

- sound or vibration signals.

Vertical road signs are divided into 7 groups:

- warning signs (type A) - triangular in the red border, black (in some signs - colored) symbol on a yellow background;

- prohibition signs (type B) - round in a red border, black (in some signs - colored) symbol on a white background;

- command signs (type C) - round, blue, with a white symbol on a blue background [e];

- information signs (type D) - rectangular, blue (possibly with a white field on the blue background), with a white, black or colored symbol on a blue or white background [f];

direction and city signs (type E) - popularly called signposts, with different shape and color depending on the situation;

- supplementary characters (type F) - large rectangles or squares of colors: blue and yellow; these are usually signs informing about traffic organization or anticipating bans and dangers;

- traffic signs (type T) - small rectangular, white or yellow plates with a black sign or symbol, placed under the sign.
