Formed as the first boy group in 3 years since NU'EST from PLEDIS Entertainment, they made their debut at the debut showcase held on May 26, 2015. On May 29th of the same year, the mini-album "17 CARAT" was released. Debuted in Japan on May 30, 2018 with the mini-album "WE MAKE YOU".

Consisting of three teams, a vocal team, a hip-hop team, and a performance team, the members themselves are in charge of everything from song production to choreography and concert setlists. Known as the "Self-produced Doll", they have recently been active in a wide range of fields, including the development of original character goods supervised by members, MV production, web radio, web variety program planning, and theme song production.

The group name "SEVENTEEN" represents "13 members + 3 teams + 1 group = 17". In addition, before the group was formed, there was also a plan to debut as a 17-member group with an average age of 17.

The official fan club name ``CARAT'' has the meaning of ``the existence that makes the diamond of SEVENTEEN shine''. The official colors of CARAT are Rose Quartz and Serenity.
