The second criterion of food or drink that is forbidden is al-iskar alias intoxication. Of course, it is not only what is eaten, but also what is swallowed, drunk, smoked, inhaled, injected, and so on.

In principle, any kind of food, drink, or anything that is consumed by humans that causes drunkenness, is haraam.

The problem is, what is meant by drunkenness itself? And what are the limitations? When is someone considered drunk?

This understanding is very much needed considering that 'illat or the cause of the prohibition of khamr is due to intoxication. If a food that is considered khamr turns out to be in fact not intoxicating after being eaten, then of course we cannot call it intoxicating food or drink.

To decide whether a product is khamr or not, there are many methods used by many groups. For example by measuring the levels of alcohol content, as was done by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

In his statement, it is said that the MUI has made provisions that food or medicine is still tolerated if it contains an alcohol level below 1 percent.

This booklet will discuss a little about the fiqh surrounding khamr, starting from the process of banning it, to the follow-up laws that are the consequences.

And at the end or the third chapter, it elaborates a little on the discussion of the relationship between khamar and alcohol.

Hopefully this book can add to our insight into the science of jurisprudence, especially regarding alcohol and the laws related to it. Amen
