The discussion of material in this book is always preceded by concrete knowledge that students encounter in everyday life. These concrete problems are used as a bridge to the world of abstract mathematics through the use of appropriate mathematical symbols through modeling.

Arriving at the abstract realm, mathematical methods are introduced to solve the problem model obtained and return the results to the concrete realm. In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are required to search for and explore other learning resources that are available and spread widely around them. The teacher's role is very important to increase and adapt students' absorption capacity to the availability of activities in this book. Teachers can enrich it with creations in the form of activities and other appropriate and relevant learning media sourced from the social and natural environment.

Regarding material, in the 2013 curriculum since class VII, data and opportunities have been taught, among other things; number patterns and sequences, algebra, and shapes; as well as geometric transformations. A balance between the mathematics of numbers and the mathematics of patterns and shapes is always maintained. Knowledge competency does not only involve conceptual understanding but also application through procedural knowledge in solving mathematical problems, including real life problems. Thinking skills competencies are also sharpened to be able to solve problems that require high order thinking such as reasoning through problem solving through modeling, proof and estimation/approach.

The implementation of the 2013 curriculum, which has been running for three years, has received positive responses and very valuable input. Various evaluations and revisions were also carried out by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. This is used as much as possible, one of which is by preparing books to perfect implementation in the 2016/2017 academic year and beyond.

As a first revised edition, this book is very open and needs to be revised to improve it.
